New Years Resolution = No Prison in Tooele County

Do you want a prison in Tooele County?  The media thinks we do, so do our County Commissioners.  The media and our state legislators are convinced that nothing has changed since a resolution in 2013 was passed in support of relocating the prison to Tooele County.  Outgoing commissioners Clegg and Hurst and incumbent Milne all voted in favor of prison relocation to Tooele stating in the resolution that 'it is in the "best interest" of Tooele County to make a public statement in support of the concept of relocating the Draper facility to Tooele County'.  

Now since this resolution and the identification of the SR112 (Miller) site was placed on the shortlist, some of the commissioners have voiced opposition of relocation - but for this site only.  They have NOT passed a new resolution to oppose relocation in Tooele County altogether.  Outside the argument that it is a bad idea to place a prison directly adjacent our recreational facilities, all of the other arguments of why that site is bad applies to the whole county.  We need your help to get the Commissioner's to support the will of the people that elected them.  Please contact Commissioners Milne, Bitner and Bateman to know that you want a new resolution passed to oppose prison relocation to Tooele County.  

Some residents of Tooele County have told ABC 4 News that the prison would ruin their property values and they don't want to be a dumping ground for the Wasatch Front but the Tooele County Commission passed a resolution supporting having the prison in August of 2013.  "Tooele wanted the jobs," Representative Brad Wilson (R - Kaysville) said. "They wanted the infrastructure the prison would bring and they were open to it."
