The push for prison relocation = real estate development

Back in February, Draper city officials paid $4k for this rendering of 'Silicon Slopes' which is 700 acres worth of commerical (9 million square ft of office space) and residential development.  Currently, 21 lawmakers including the Senate president have ties to real estate and development.  Conflict of interest or not?

The original Utah State Prison was located on what is now Sugarhouse Park.  History has a way of repeating itself -- when homes started encroaching on the original prison site the decision was made to relocate.  Interestingly, there were a number of proposals on what to do with the land:
"Following the razing of the old prison, proposals to repurpose the land included an amusement park, campground, golf course, and shopping center. The former site eventually became Sugar House Park while 30 acres (12 ha) were set aside for the future campus of Highland High School" wikipedia.org
Perhaps our prior officials and residents were more civic minded when they decided to use the land for a school and park.  IF the legislature succeeds in relocation, I hope they consider the best use of State-owned land for the betterment of the populace.
